Case Study:Elevating Editors Picks Okanagan Through Editorial Content, Email Strategy, and Social Media Copy

As a contract digital marketer and Editor for Editors Picks Okanagan, I created content that supported advertiser visibility, strengthened audience engagement, and helped shape the publication’s digital presence within the local fashion, lifestyle, and hospitality space.

My role combined editorial storytelling with strategic marketing. From sponsored feature writing to email campaigns and Instagram copy, I developed content designed to feel aligned with the brand’s aesthetic while also serving a clear business purpose: to create value for advertisers, build connection with readers, and support ongoing growth.

The Opportunity

Editors Picks Okanagan offered local brands and businesses paid advertising opportunities through a promotional package that gave advertisers visibility across multiple digital touchpoints. Rather than relying on a single placement, each package was designed to extend across web, email, newsletter, and social media.

My role was to shape the written content that supported these campaigns and ensure each piece felt polished, engaging, and cohesive within the broader Editors Picks brand.

What I Was Responsible For

I was brought on to write sponsored client stories, develop weekly email content, and create social media copy for the Editors Picks Okanagan Instagram account.

I also helped guide the weekly newsletter strategy by deciding what content to feature in order to keep readers engaged, spotlight advertisers in a natural way, and position Editors Picks Okanagan as a valuable platform for future advertisers.

Sponsored Content and Advertiser Visibility

Each advertiser received a multi-channel promotional package designed to maximize exposure while maintaining the editorial tone of the platform.

This included:

  • a feature story published on the Editors Picks Okanagan website

  • a dedicated email sent to the subscriber list announcing the story and including a short promotional blurb

  • social media support to extend reach and awareness

  • and inclusion in the weekly newsletter.

This approach allowed advertisers to benefit from layered visibility across several channels, while giving the content a more intentional and elevated presence than a single ad placement alone.

Email Marketing Strategy

One of the most consistent parts of my role was creating and managing the weekly newsletter. Each send was designed to balance editorial interest with promotional value, highlighting sponsored stories, advertiser events, local happenings, and brand features in a way that still felt relevant and engaging to the audience.

I also used the weekly newsletter to spotlight a local fashion or lifestyle business, which helped Editors Picks Okanagan stay connected to the local business community, build goodwill, and create brand familiarity with potential future advertisers.

My email campaigns achieved an average open rate of 58.6% and an average click-through rate of 6.6%, reflecting a strong level of audience engagement and interest in the content being shared.

Instagram Copywriting and Content Support

For Instagram, the visual grid and monthly image selections were curated by another team member to maintain a cohesive and aesthetically pleasing feed. My role focused on the copy strategy behind the content.

I wrote captions designed to encourage conversation, create audience engagement, and increase visibility for both current and prospective advertisers. I also researched timely and relevant content opportunities that could naturally connect with the brand’s audience and advertiser base, including niche or seasonal moments such as National Ceasar Day.

These moments created opportunities to tag existing advertisers, bring potential clients into view, and make the brand’s social presence feel timely, thoughtful, and connected to the local lifestyle landscape.

The Result

Through thoughtful content creation across editorial, email, and social media, I helped Editors Picks Okanagan build a stronger and more advertiser-supportive digital presence.

The work contributed to:

  • average email open rates of 58.6%

  • average click-through rates of 6.6%

  • consistent multi-channel visibility for advertisers

  • stronger community connection through local business features

  • a more strategic social presence designed to encourage engagement and support future advertiser relationships

To Sum it Up

My work with Editors Picks Okanagan was rooted in the intersection of editorial storytelling and digital strategy. By creating sponsored stories, developing engaging newsletters, and writing social copy that supported both audience connection and advertiser visibility, I helped contribute to a content experience that felt polished, intentional, and commercially effective.
